Chapter One Introduction
The world has gradually entered a brand new era of knowledge-based
economy since the 1990's. Knowledge has thus become the direct
prop-up point of social economy and a variety of knowledge
and skills that adapt to the development of market economy
will become the basic requirement of the labor force. Furthermore, the
purpose of people's entry into university is not for the sake
of proceeding scholarship any more, but for the acquirement
of the continuously renewed knowledge and technical ability
.The mission of higher education is, therefore, to cultivate
creative talents and to carry out a comprehensively quality-
targeted educational programme.
Teachers and students in higher educational institutions play
a most active role in the development of high- qualified talents
when we are in the face of such an era of knowledge-based
economy .So it is very urgent to build up a high-qualified
staff. And the concentration on the development of sufficient
talents with high quality according to the requirements of
the era of knowledge-based economy is the endless incentive
to drive the human society forward. This thesis, through a
careful analysis of the requirements of knowledge-based economy
towards talents, elaborates on the various ways to improve
the quality of higher educational institutions.
